招生机制

三层证据一致指向「不要靠套磁」：① EECS 招生 FAQ 明说不需要联系 faculty、也不需要在申请前定导师；② 长期在招生委员会的 Berkeley CS 教授 Jonathan Shewchuk 的申请者页把机制写死为「系录人、进来再配导师」，并直接说邮件说服不了教授；③ 系里做体系结构的 Christopher Fletcher 在个人主页上把「录取前不要发邮件谈读博」写成明文规则，同时指定了真正有效的动作 —— 在申请表 Faculty Interest 栏点他的名。

所以精力分配应当是：SOP + Faculty Interest 栏点名（高）> 论文/代码可核查性（高）> 套磁邮件（低，只对少数明文邀请的人有意义）。第一年不由系里指定导师，也没有 Stanford 那种正式 rotation：Shewchuk 的说法是学生进来后自己「hook up with advisors」，而资助由系保证，所以第一年更像自主找组。系里有三个明文例外可以在申请期发邮件：Sophia Shao（欢迎发 CV）、Sanjit Seshia（有位置）、Kurt Keutzer（邀请有发表的 PhD 申请者投他组，但他是 Emeritus）；

另有 Koushik Sen 要求「先用 KISS Sorcar 做出东西再来找我」。

判断

套磁在 Berkeley 是低回报动作，但 Faculty Interest 栏是高回报动作。 结论不是「不做任何联系」，而是把套磁预算从 10 封压到 2-3 封（只发给 Shao / Seshia / Keutzer 这类明文邀请的人），把省下的时间投到 SOP 与 Faculty Interest 名单的精确度上 —— 因为系委员会读的是这两样。对 Fletcher 这类明文禁止的人，发邮件是净损失。

TOEFL

✅ 已解封，但注意单项分数门槛。 本人已定重考目标 5.0–5.5（新制），总分门槛已够；⚠️ Berkeley 对口语与写作单项各要求 ≥4.5，不是只看总分——备考时口语/写作不能明显拖后腿。

UC Berkeley 研究生院 Fall 2027 专用要求页逐字（grad.berkeley.edu/admissions/steps-to-apply/requirements/，抓取 2026-08-18，A）："Tests taken from June 1, 2025 to January 20, 2026: 90 minimum total score"；"Tests taken on or after January 21, 2026: 5 minimum total score, with 4.5 minimum Speaking and Writing section scores."；"For Fall 2027, tests taken before June 1, 2025 will not be accepted, even if your score was reported to UC Berkeley." IELTS 对应为旧口径 7.0 / 新口径 overall 7.0 且 Speaking 与 Writing 各 ≥6.5。

EECS FAQ 另给一套较旧的表述（"90 on the Internet Based Test (iBT)" / IELTS overall 7，A），与研究生院页对旧考试日期口径一致。→ 对他的直接影响：profile 记的是「TOEFL 4.5/6（新版分制）= 90/120，CEFR B2」。若这份成绩考于 2026-01-21 及之后（「新版分制」这个描述强烈指向如此），则总分 4.5 低于 Berkeley 要求的 5.0，直接不达线；

若考于 2025-06-01 至 2026-01-20 之间且报告为旧版 90 分，则刚好达线、零余量。⚠️ 必须先确认考试日期与报告分制，再决定要不要投 Berkeley。（注：Berkeley 的这条门槛比 HKUST 的 iBT ≥80 高得多，profile §5 那句「这不是短板」在 HKUST 语境下成立，在 Berkeley 语境下不成立。

GRE

申请费
